Senior Pet Wellness
Keeping pets healthy and happy well into their "golden years" is our priority. We have created a wellness program specifically to address the needs of our senior patients and tailored to each individual animal's size, breed and medical history. The program is divided into three levels to accommodate the changes in your pet over time. Our goal is to evaluate your pet now to look for early signs of disease and to obtain valuable baseline data for future comparisons if your pet should become ill. With our emphasis on preventative care, we hope to provide you with a long range plan to keep your pet as healthy as possible.

The senior examination and testing can be done in one day. Please call to schedule an appointment. The data will be collected and a detailed summary will be completed within a few days of the examination. Your doctor will call you to discuss the test results and provide specific recommendations for the future care of your pet. In addition, copies of all tests and reports will be mailed to you for your records.
What Does Each Test Do?
Blood Tests
Blood Chemistry Panel - This test helps evaluate how the internal organs are functioning. Enzymes, proteins, electrolytes, blood sugar, and thyroid hormone are measured to determine the internal status of your pet.
Complete Blood Count - This test measures the number of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in the blood sample. This can help identify infections, anemia, leukemia, and clotting disorders.
Complete Urinalysis
From a urine sample, the presence or absence of sugar, protein, white blood cells, or blood can be detected. Also, the concentration of the urine helps in analysis of kidney function.
Fecal Flotation Test
Microscopic examination of your pet’s feces is important in the identification of internal parasites; such as whipworms, roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and Giardia.
Intraocular Pressure
A pre-screening test for glaucoma.
Chest X-Rays
This diagnostic test helps in the evaluation of your pet’s heart size and shape. Also, the lung fields can be studied for any nodules or signs of cancer.
Abdominal X-Rays
This test helps evaluate the size of the internal organs located in the abdomen. Bladder and kidney stones can often be visualized. Also, an evaluation of the spine can be done for detection of arthritis.
E.C.G.
An E.C.G., or electrocardiogram, helps analyze the rate and rhythm of your pet’s heart. Abnormal heart rhythms can be detected with this test.
Blood Pressure
This test helps evaluate for hypertension (high blood pressure) which is common in many diseases such as hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, and heart disease.
